White Women and the Power Paradox (WWPP)
What is WWPP?
White women have unique challenges being allies in the fight to create a racially just society given the way sexism and racism intersect. We guide women interested in anti-racism and racial equity work to undo the internalized sexism that gets in the way of being reliable and accountable.
We started a WWPP FAQ page on Brianna’s website to begin to answer the questions we’ve gotten about what two white ladies are doing together supporting other white women (and white men and BIPOC as interested) to learn about racism and how internalized sexism messes us up as we lead and to build our muscles to dismantle white supremacy. In the meantime, to register for our webinars and classes, go to the workshops and events page. If you have a question and/or your business, organization, network or family needs help, click here.
When did this work start?
In 2019 Brianna Boggs and I talked formally about working together to support white women who care about building their racial equity muscles. We were co-leading our 3rd year long Racial Equity Leaders Learning Circle program with Rebecca Jackson and Simone John of Trinity Connects and we had our first all white cohort of non-profit leaders.
How did we get here?
Brianna and I have known each other for over 10 years meeting initially when she hired Madeline to help Opera Boston figure out its diversity issues. Madeline has been leading white people to help them understand structural racism, privilege, the nuances of racial abuse etc…for decades as a youth worker, in her faith community and with clients. She has led women’s empowerment work throughout her career in her leadership coaching and training practice as well. Brianna also has been doing this work for decades, but in the past couple of years she was specifically asked by her friends of color to corral white people and do our own work. Boston is small. Our paths kept crossing and here we are partnering together to create this body of work.
